This Gun for Hire/The Blue Dahlia
(1942/1946) The perfect model for a movie actor is a short person with a big head. Alan Ladd fit these specs as if he were designed by special order. The small but fierce Ladd starts off the Stanford's excellent film noir/pre-Code festival in two films with his equally diminutive lead, Veronica Lake. In This Gun for Hire (somewhat based on a Graham Greene novel), Ladd plays a cat-loving hit man who goes up against Nazi collaborators under the nervous protection of ace villain Laird Cregar. A little amoral blonde singer at Cregar's club (Lake) confuses matters. BILLED WITH The Blue Dahlia, the better picture. It deals with a pair of army buddies who return from World War II to a dismal new life. Ladd's wife (Doris Dowling) is sleeping around, and his child is dead, thanks to her negligence; his buddy Buzz (William Bendix, never better) has a plate in his head that gives him violent headaches and potentially murderous spells whenever the music gets too loud. Toen zeker. Nu wi-fi beperkt door haar onzekerheid... Ik geen geek maar een gebruiker. Een gebruiker die grotendeels weet maar de rest wilweten voor simpelgebruik. Mac/Apple voldoet grotendeels. lately i had a lot of smallbigtalk in closing bars about two 'monumental' movies:

eisenstein - bronenossets potyomkin (battleship potemkin)
welles - citizen kane

potemkin is considered as the best movie ever made,
or at least in the silent era.
citizen kane is hailed as 'the' movie of movies,
certainly in the sound era.
i says 'bullocks'.
i wants to says again 'bullocks'.
those two 'masterpieces' are overrated.
they are ok. even more than ok. they are goodgood.
they belong to the movies to be seen when you are talking movies.
history, aesthetics, editing, etcetera.
why, i might explain my pov on that on another occasion.

ik excuseer mij voor mijn afwezigheid op de filmprojectie van POINT BLANK die ik normaal moest inleiden in www.demarkten.be op 5 dec om 8pm

een uur voor de projectie ben ik door haast en spoed (zelden goed) uit mijn wheelchair gevallen en wegens de onbeweegllijkheid van mijn onderste ledematen heb ik vijf uur op een betonnen vloer gelegen en gevochten om uiteindelijk toch nog terug gemobiliseerd te raken. tijdens die vijf uur kon ik niet aan mijn normale communicatie-instrumenten waardoor ik niemand kon bereiken.

na 4 maand voorbereiding met plenty docu over de film
(de mails waren maar een fractie van info en zelfschrijverij),
na een queeste om de cultfilm te vinden
en na vele vrienden in te schakelen
om een mooi voorprogramma te maken...
tenietgedaan door heirkracht.

maar de filmprojectie op zichzelf het waard
ikweetnietwiemaarhoopdatdiegenengenotenhebben.
die waarde maakte mijn zwaarte draaglijk.

mijn pijn is soms ondraaglijk,
mijn lichaam is weer wat meer geabîmeerd,
mijn point blank duurde dus langer dan de geplande versie (92min).
mijn vechtlust weer aangescherpt.
ik geef niet op.

Het is niet duidelijk of we heirkracht al dan niet tot de standaardtaal in België kunnen rekenen. Standaardtaal in het hele taalgebied is in elk geval overmacht.
Toelichting:
Wanneer iemand door omstandigheden verhinderd wordt of in de onmogelijkheid verkeert om zijn verplichtingen na te komen, spreekt men in de standaardtaal van overmacht.
(1) Afwezigheid wegens een zakenreis of vakantie vormt geen geval van overmacht.
(2) Bij overmacht, ongevallen of slechte weersomstandigheden vervalt deze garantie.
In België wordt in deze betekenis ook heirkracht gebruikt, ook door veel standaardtaalsprekers. Toch is er een niet te verwaarlozen groep taalgebruikers die het woord afkeurt. Het is daarom vooralsnog niet duidelijk of het woord tot de standaardtaal in België gerekend kan worden.
(3) Het is slechts bij enorme heirkracht dat een van de aangehaalde alternatieven een kans maakt. (in België, status onduidelijk)

Né à Philadelphie le 11 décembre 1938, McCOY TYNER a débuté au piano dès l'âge de 13 ans influencé par Bud Powell, Art Tatum et Thelonious Monk. Après avoir fréquenté les clubs de Philly et accompagné les grands noms de passage, il est engagé dans un groupe co-dirigé par Benny Golson et Art Farmer. C'est ainsi que l'on peut l'entendre sur les versions originales des grands classiques que sont " Blues March ", " I remember Clifford " ou " Killer Joe ". Puis ce fut la naissance du mythique quartet de John Coltrane, avec Elvin Jones et Jimmy Garrison, l'une des formations ayant le plus influencé le jazz moderne. L'aventure allait durer de 1960 à fin 65 et McCOY TYNER acquérir sa place dans l'histoire du jazz.
Il fait ses débuts en tant que leader en 1966, en trio. Pendant de nombreuses années, il multiplie les rencontres avec les musiciens les plus divers et accompagne même Ike et Tina Turner.
Nous le retrouvons en 2005 dans cette formule qu'il affectionne tant, le trio, et qui met particulièrement en valeur son style unique, qui a façonné le jeu de toute une génération de pianistes depuis trente ans. Véritable inventeur du jeu modal au piano, son discours mélodique est volontiers emprunt de douceur. Il est aussi capable de puissance et d'invention rythmique et invoque l'Afrique, l'Orient ou Bali.
Le Grenoble Jazz Festival l'avait accueilli il y a quelques années en duo avec le vibraphoniste Bobby Hutcherson et ce concert rare est resté profondément gravé dans les mémoires.

Von Trier is one of our few great contemporary artists, and this film shows what he can really do without the (later) self-imposed restraints of the indy-uber-alles Dogma film manifesto – location shooting with no effects or enhancements, etc.. EUROPA is all an effect, capturing the feel of expressionistic B&W films better than David Lynch or anyone else. There are sets, models, and even some hand-tinted color effects. The opening alone is hard to top – the audience is LITERALLY hypnotized by Max Von Sydow's voice, and the voice recurs throughout the film taking the audience and protagonist to deeper and deeper levels of trance nightmare, as if Nazism is the underlying reality of Europe, or the essential nature of the subconscious. The plot: An American of German descent arrives in post-war Germany 1945 with little sense of how desperate a world he's entering. His uncle gets him a precious job on the Zentropa train line as a sleeping car conductor. Caught up in a convulsing society but he finds himself being used by both the Americans who are hunting left-over Nazis and the influential family that owns the railroad. After falling in love with the railroad magnate's daughter, he begins to lose his neutrality, as she draws him into the shadowy surviving Nazi terrorist underground of "The Werewolves." That's not as silly as it sounds – there really was a proto-nazi underground call The Werewolves.) Von Trier pitched a fit when EUROPA didn't win the Cannes Palm D'Or, but 1991 was a great year for movies. The title of my portion of the presentation is "Putting Ourselves Out of Business: Implications of Levinas for Psychology." I want to make the case that a psychology and psychotherapy based on a Levinasian ethics is a psychotherapy that does not exist to perpetuate itself. Rather, it is a psychotherapy for the Other. And not only is it a psychotherapy for the Other, it recognizes that its responsibility for the Other is bestowed not just for the Other but by the Other. Our freedom as psychotherapists is a freedom given by and for the Other. If it weren't for the Other, we would not be given the privilege of our responsibility as psychotherapists. In other words, our profession is a gift from the Other.
